Elton John is still standing.
The "Cold Heart" singer is on the mend after falling at home Sunday night. John, 76, was taken to a hospital and kept overnight for observation.
"We can confirm that following a slip yesterday at his home in the south of France, Elton visited the local hospital as a precautionary measure," a representative for John confirmed to USA TODAY. "Following check ups, he was immediately discharged this morning and is now back at home and in good health."
The minor accident comes two months after John delivered a stirring farewell performance at Glastonbury Festival in the U.K. The five-time Grammy winner played his final North American show last November at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
John previously underwent hip surgery after suffering a fall in 2021, which forced him to push back many of his tour dates.
In addition to touring, the music legend has remained prolific: releasing top-10 hit "Hold Me Closer" with Britney Spears, and writing music for a stage version of "The Devil Wears Prada" that premiered in Chicago last summer. He also released a duets album, "The Lockdown Sessions," in 2021, featuring Miley Cyrus, Brandi Carlile and Lil Nas X.
Speaking to USA TODAY in November 2020, he also said that longtime collaborator Bernie Taupin has sent him lyrics for potential new songs. Although he's in no rush to put out yet another album.
"I haven't felt the urge to do anything Elton-y at all," John said at the time. "I've been spending time with my children and that is the silver lining in the dark cloud (of the pandemic). So I have the lyrics, they are really great lyrics and one day I will get around to doing it. I just don't feel motivated. No one needs another Elton John album at the moment and I only want to write another Elton John album when I feel really, really motivated."
